Dr. Donna J. Drucker

Donna J. Drucker leads the English as the Language for Instruction Project (ELIP), which helps faculty, administrative staff, scientific staff, and students across the university to improve their English abilities for teaching and learning. ELIP currently partners with the HDA, URBANgrad, the Institute of History, the Chair of Product Development and Machine Elements, the Institute of Sociology, and the Chair of Material Flow Management and Resource Economy in order to offer a variety of workshops, classes, and support services in English. Drucker received a master of library science and a PhD in history from Indiana University, Bloomington. She taught at Colorado College, Butler University, and Indiana State University before becoming a postdoctoral fellow in TU-Darmstadt’s Topology of Technology Research Training Group in March 2012. She has been a guest professor at the Chair of Spatial and Infrastructure Planning in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering through KIVA II. She is also a guest lecturer in the Mundus Urbano master’s degree program and an adjunct professor of history at the University of Maryland, University College.

Drucker is the author of two books: The Classification of Sex: Alfred Kinsey and the Organization Of Knowledge (Pittsburgh, 2014) and The Machines of Sex Research: Technology and the Politics of Identity, 1945–1985 (Springer, 2014). The Classification of Sex won the 2015 Bullough Award from the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality for the most distinguished book written for the professional sexological community in 2014.

In 2016, Drucker won the Sonderpreis Gender-sensible und Diversity-gerechte Lehre from the Carlo und Karin Giersch Stiftung at TU-Darmstadt. The prize was awarded to recognize her initiative in developing gender-related courses in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
